In the end of September, our PhD candidate Lotte presented results from her first PhD chapter at the 2024 OTN Symposium hosted by Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) in Halifax. She presented data on the social behaviour of spiny dogfish by combining acoustic telemetry and social network analysis. With the tracking data, she has potentially revealed the mating season of spiny dogfish by investigating the time when male and female spiny dogfish interact the most. Because the spiny dogfish and other cartilaginous species has internal fertilization, they must physically interact for mating to occur. She is currently writing up the paper and will then share more detailed results about social behaviour and interactions among the tagged spiny dogfish.
