In September and October, we are tagging migrating silver eels in Storelva in Tvedestrand, Southern Norway. We have previously documented that a significant number of eels pass through the hydropower turbine at Fosstveit power station and are killed. Major renovations have now been made at Fosstveit hydropower station, including a new narrow spaced trash rack and a better-placed bypass route. In this project, we will investigate whether the migrating eels can safely pass the renovated hydropower plant and continue out to sea, hopefully all the way to the Sargasso Sea to spawn.
