Exciting news - we are tracking chimaeras, the ghost shark, in the Bergen city fjords

losv52

We received great news from Save Our Seas Foundation that the Ghost Track project will be funded. The ghost shark, Chimaera monstrosa, is a deep water cartilaginous fish that occupies great depths.

There is limited knowledge about their movement and behaviour, and the Ghost Track project will use acoustic telemetry to track their movements in the fjords around Bergen city. This species is often found in very deep waters, however, around Bergen they are caught while fishing and observed by scuba divers at shallow depths, which enables us to capture and tag them. Over the next two years, the Ghost Track project will track chimaeras and look at their movement and depth behaviour. You can find the project on our project site here: Ghost Track
